Stari Grad is a city on the northern coast of the island of Hvar in Dalmatia, Croatia. One of the oldest cities in Europe, located in the northern part of the island, deep in a 6-kilometer bay.

Starigrad was originally named Pharos by Greek settlers from the island of Paros, who arrived here in 384 BC. e. During the Roman period, the city was known as Faria, the name Hvar appeared with the arrival of the Slavs. When the administrative center of the island was moved south to the present-day town of Hvar on the south coast, the old town was simply called Starigrad.
