Nepal is a country in Asia. Nepal is slightly less than half of Germany and has about a third more inhabitants. The capital is called Kathmandu.
The country is located in the Himalayan Mountains, sandwiched between two large neighboring states: China and India. Nepal is home to Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth. In total, there are fourteen mountains on Earth with a height of more than eight thousand meters – there are eight in Nepal.
An unusual Nepalese flag comes from the Himalayas: two peaks denote two specific mountain peaks. In addition, Nepal is famous for the fact that Buddha was born there. But most of the inhabitants are Hindus, like many people in India. Hindus say that the goddess Sita was born in modern Nepal. But there are also Buddhist Nepalis.
Unlike many other Asian countries, Nepal has not become a colony. But the country worked closely with the UK. Nepal was ruled by kings who usually did not allow democracy. Since 2008, the country has been a republic.
