Tanzania is a country in the east of Africa. It is located on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Germany is almost three times as large, but Germany has about twice as many inhabitants as Tanzania. The capital is Dodoma. Nevertheless, the government operates in Dar es Salaam, the country's largest city, located on the seashore.

On the coast there is a wide strip with a tropical climate and corresponding plants. Further inland there is a plateau with savannah, and it becomes quite mountainous. The country is home to Africa's highest mountain, Kibo. It is one of the three peaks of Kilimanjaro, a huge volcano. It's not particularly hot inside the country.

The three largest lakes in Africa are located entirely in Tanzania: in the north is Lake Victoria. It is the third largest lake in the world. Its waters flow into the Nile. To the west is Lake Tanganyika, and to the south is Lake Malawi. There is a large island off the coast of Tanzania: Zanzibar.
