Doboi was first mentioned in 1415 in one of the documents of the Dubrovnik Republic, although archaeological excavations indicate that a settlement on the site of the modern city existed in the early Stone Age. In the 1st century AD, a Roman military camp (kastrum) and a settlement (lat. Canabea) existed in the vicinity of today's Doboi. After the arrival of the Slavs in the 6th century, the settlement became part of the Usorskaya Banovina.
